Why Chasing Google Algorithms is a waste of time

Here’s why the websites I’ve built since 2008 ride high through every Google algorithm change. Why those websites get consistently high volumes of organic search traffic. And why their owners enjoy a massive return on investment and the luxury of a steady flow of relevant leads through the internet.

There’s absolutely no point chasing Google Algorithms.  It’s like trying to stand on the beach and hold back the tide.

And this is why…

Google is relentless in its search for the best websites. It generates around $100 million a day, just through advertising revenue, so it’s got a whole lot of resources to throw at investing in search.  There were 15 updates in 2014 alone. So trying to keep up and chasing Google algorithms is a complete waste of time.

If you chase these changes and keep changing your websites and tactics to follow, your company will constantly be changing tack. And take a very long time to go forwards.

It’s far better to go confidently forwards in the right direction.  But what is that right direction?

Success Formula

Here’s the formula I use for success…

First, read the Google guide to search engine optimisation

This is a free document which tells you how to correctly structure your website. Some of the mobile information is a little outdated but other than that, it’s great. Make sure that whoever builds your site follows the guide.

As a business owner you don’t need to understand every tiny detail of the guide… but you do need a good understanding so you can make sure your developer delivers.

Now your visitors

Once your site is structured correctly… it’s all about your target market and your content.

Here’s a quote taken directly from the Google Guide –

“Compelling content will likely influence your website more than any other factor.”

If you fill your website with high quality content, then you will ride high above every change.

Now let’s look at that content.

The content on your Home and About Us pages needs to be really well written.

If you are a good writer, you need to pound the keys yourself, or if not pay someone to do it for you. Invest in great content and it will pay off.

You need to create compelling copy that explains exactly what you do, how you do it and why? Write active  text and add quality images. Create something that engages your target market and gets them hooked into your business.  If you do this, Google will reward you.

Google monitors the human interaction with your site. If people are spending time on your site, liking and sharing your content, Google will send you ever increasing volumes of quality organic traffic.

You need to make sure that you are consistently writing quality, original content. The worst trend at the moment is marketers pinching other people’s content.

Please don’t do this. You are not making a difference –  you’re just adding to the noise.

Be Original

If you really want to be at the top of the rankings, it’s simple. Absorb yourself in your niche and write something new.

Then, you’ll stand out from the crowd.

If you make sure your content is consistently original and high quality you will ride high above every Google algorithm change because you will be doing exactly what Google wants.

And the results will speak for themselves.
