Why a great UVP is your most valuable piece of marketing collateral

Marketing Conversion Glossary unbounce.com defines it as follows: ‘Also known as a unique selling proposition (USP), your UVP is a clear statement that describes the benefit of your offer, how you solve your customer’s needs and what distinguishes you from the competition. Your unique value proposition should appear prominently on your landing page and in every marketing campaign.’

Make your UVP work for you

Why? Because when someone lands on your website you have about a second these days to communicate who you are, what you do and for who.

This is where your UVP wields its power.

If you don’t communicate it really fast, your prospect is gone. Get your UVP across immediately and you have made that first, invaluable connection with your customer. Set your brand story off with a bang.

What makes you so special?

What is it that is unique to your business or about your product or what you do that sets you apart? Why should the customer take the time to look through your website and consider your product, and then pick up the phone, or walk through your door?

Find the thing that makes you stand out from a crowded marketplace and use it to get people to notice you. Then make that central to your marketing strategy, so it becomes part of your business’s fabric and is instantly connectable to your brand.

A team effort

Once you have identified a central idea or theme, that concept can weave it’s way throughout your team and workplace, demonstrating the value you offer to your customer at every opportunity.

So whenever the team pick up the phone or go to a networking event, they know the UVP of the company and can represent that consistently.

It’s a very powerful thing and it’s a handy way to pull the whole organisation together. A strong UVP is like having a team of sales people working for you 24/7, for free!

Short and sweet...

With a small amount of time to connect with a prospect, a short UVP is a great way to grab their attention, fast! Some great 3 word, 1 line UVPs are familiar to us all, and really easy to recall:

Mail chimp – Send better email

Nike – Just do it

Xero – beautiful accounting software

Spotify – Soundtrack your life

And for us at Brilliant Digital – Powerful Digital Storytelling

...and expand

Then, what can be really handy is to have a 2 or 3 sentence expansion of your UVP further down the homepage of your website. It’s still relatively brief, but gives you the chance to position your company to the curious customer with a description of what you do in a bit more detail.

At Brilliant Digital we expand upon our UVP as follows:

At Brilliant Digital we are strategic storytellers…. and … We take the guesswork out of growing your brand.
