My name is Cathy Proctor and I am a Digital Storyteller at Brilliant Digital. I come from a traditional publishing background. I am an author and editor and I worked in publishing for 15 years before I had children. Then I was looking for something flexible and part-time where I could still be creative, which led me to Brilliant Digital.
All our clients have one thing in common, regardless of industry or business size. They are extremely good at their business, but they don’t have the time or the skills to do digital marketing themselves.
Digital marketing is a completely different skill set and needs the involvement of a team. You can’t expect one person to do it all alone.
Our clients have generally done some form of digital marketing before and been burnt by using other companies that haven’t delivered. They’ve just written a website and then left the client to come up with original content. But content creation and storytelling are unique and difficult skills to master.
Storytelling works really well for our clients because people engage with stories. They remember stories. They make decisions based on the emotional connection they get with a story. Basically, storytelling shows a customer the heart and soul of a business rather than giving them dry, impersonal information.
I naturally become emotionally invested with all my clients, so when I get a great outcome for them it is absolutely the best thing in the world.
That’s what I love about working in digital marketing – when you get the results you can truly see them. They are tangible. We see value-add and we see businesses transformed with the work that we do … all by telling their stories for them.
There are lots of things that I really love about Brilliant Digital, it’s not just one thing.
Firstly, it’s always about the people. The people I work with are incredibly supportive. We always work as a team; there are no ‘I’s. We work together as a whole group on every project and we’ve all got each other’s backs.
I just love my clients and I feel part of their team. Whether they realise it or not, I am part of their business. I become the outsourced marketing department and I love that. I find it really exciting!

I really love making a difference. That’s very important to me. On whatever level, whoever I’m working with, I want to help make a difference. I guess that means helping is another value for me, in fact, there are a few more values that are important like teamwork, integrity and resilience. These all continually motivate me and keep me feeling inspired.
When I’m not at work I’m just creating. I love a lot of different crafts and I have my own blog. I love cooking and I used to have a cookery school. I write books – in fact, I do a lot of writing. So, I’m always learning, reading and creating.
Plus, I also love to relax; I’m a bit of a homebody. I love my home; I love relaxing with my boys. I love that this business lets me be a mum, walk my dog twice a day, catch up with girlfriends. I get up early in the morning, do a couple of hours work then I can go and have coffee, walk the dog, go to the beach. It’s fantastic!
Work is always there, I’m always thinking about work but in a good way. It’s just fabulous!
